Perfectly Grilled Summer Squash

Our HR Director, Veronica R., has been growing summer squash in her garden for many years. This year, her harvest runneth-over which inspired her to share the bounty with some of us here at O Bee. As we near the end of summer and attempt to escape the heat, outside grilling is the way to go. Here are some tips for perfectly grilled summer squash. Let's dig in!

Skip the seeds. Some people like the seeds, some don’t. We like to prep our summer squash by trimming the ends, slicing them in half lengthwise and scraping out the seeds with a spoon.

Less is more. Summer squash has a distinctively fresh flavor. Not much is needed to enhance the yummy natural taste of these garden treasures. Brush them with a bit of olive oil, add a generous shake of salt and pepper, and you’re on your way to flavor-town. 

Char = Flavor. Charring ads flavor, burning does not. Grilling your veggies until there is just a paper-thin char layer adds an appealing smoke and wood flavor. Be careful not to burn them. Slice ‘em, spear ‘em and snack ‘em all day!

Spice is Nice. For you adventure seekers who like a side of hot sauce with your hot sauce, may we suggest adding a dash of Cayenne or Paprika for grilled veggies that bite back.
