Russia's unprovoked attack on Ukraine has brought unimaginable hardship to the people of Ukraine. Historically, credit unions have been an essential part of the financial system for the citizens of this small country. Even in the US, over a dozen small credit unions tie themselves to their American/Ukrainian heritage. One, the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union has sent out over $700,000 in the first days of the conflict from its members to family back home.
The credit union movement is indeed a global community, and credit unions worldwide are offering support. The Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions (WFCU) has launched a fund to send aid to Ukraine's credit unions where it is most needed in the short term, and for challenges the system faces in the long term.
O Bee, and credit unions across the nation, support Ukraine in its effort to remain a free and sovereign nation. If you're watching this crisis unfold, you may be wondering how you can help. There are many worthy aid organizations offering support. We encourage you to give what you can. Three such organizations are listed below. Thank you.
Photo: To show our support for Ukraine, O Bee collaborated with the Olympia Tumwater Foundation to project a peace sign in the colors of the Ukrainian flag on the side of the old brewery building. You can see it light the night sky from 8pm to 11pm.
